Linking People, Data & Tech For Actionable Insights

Data literacy is a critical component of success in the modern world. What is the use of innovative tools if users don’t understand how they function? Can users fully utilise the abilities of these tools? Without adequate literacy, user adoption suffers. As a result, organisations are spending a large portion of their annual budgets on software, tools and infrastructure that is not being used effectively.

Learning, Partnerships Key to Tech Success

In a field where limits are only imposed by the imagination, businesses must continue to learn, evolve and partner to create ongoing success. Technology today is as simple as it will ever be. It is advancing exponentially, daily and the real challenge is not only to keep up, but to get ahead, delivering solutions before the world even knows it needs them.

According to James Hickman, Managing Director at South Africa Qlik Master Reseller (SAQMR), an EOH Company, fostering deeper relationships, sharing knowledge and learning are three key elements to achieving continued growth in the industry. “Modern technology businesses must shift from a tactical and competitive approach to focus on driving value to partners and customers. When this is at the cornerstone of the strategy, the rest will follow.”

This month, SAQMR celebrated the development of true partnerships at the SA Qlik Partner Awards 2018, held at Emperor’s Palace. At an illustrious dinner, featuring live music and entertainment from mentalist Larry Soffer, partners were handed their Awards with great thanks, a request to keep SAQMR accountable, and encouragement to continue achieving success.

Eloise Bowen, Executive: Marketing & New Business Development at SAQMR, announced the winners and listed the criteria which needed to be met in order to win. In the OEM division, Metrix Software Solutions was crowned OEM Partner 2018, largely for its Enterprise Risk Management solution, IsoMetrix. The New (Rookie) OEM Partner 2018 Award went to Owl Africa, providing a cloud-based data integration solution for the manufacturing industry. Pragma Africa proudly left the Awards dinner with the Consistent Revenue Performance Over Past 3 Years 2018 Award.

In the broader division, the Authorised Reseller 2018 Award went to C2BC for achieving growth of 103% and offering exemplary enablement in sales. IntelQt scooped the Innovation Partner of the Year 2018 Award, for driving the Qlik brand forward by looking ahead and developing solutions today, to solve tomorrow’s challenges. In a new award category, Charlene Smith from Insight Business Consulting won the Sales Person of the Year 2018 Award. She closed 44 deals, significantly driving growth.

The SA Qlik Partner of the Year 2018 Award recognises the partner’s commitment, growth and success within the Qlik environment and is awarded to the best overall performing reseller. For 2018, the winner is Insight Business Consulting. The SAQMR partner showed a great commitment to communication, collaboration, predictions and customer satisfaction, leading to a 125% sales achievement growth.

“Congratulations to all of our partners who achieved excellent growth. We are proud to be associated with your brands and your people. In 2019, continue to strive for excellence as we commit to strengthening our relationships for even greater growth,” concluded Hickman. “Let us satisfy and delight customers, build your businesses, and grow together.”

Qlik positioned in leaders’ quadrant of Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Analytics and Business Intelligence Platforms for eighth consecutive year

Qlik, a leader in data analytics, today announced it has been positioned by Gartner in the leaders’ quadrant of the Magic Quadrant for Analytics and Business Intelligence Platforms*. This designation marks the eighth consecutive year that Qlik has been positioned in the leaders’ quadrant.

A complimentary copy of the full report is available for download from http://www.qlik.com/mq2018.

“We are delivering immense value to customers, while expanding the definition of what it means to be a leader in the BI industry,” said Mike Capone, Qlik CEO. “With an enterprise-class platform that can expand into every part of their business, Qlik is helping to drive customers to leadership positions in the analytics economy. As the market pioneer, Qlik has continually invested in innovation and our modern, cloud-ready platform is the foundation for transformational disruption in our customers’ enterprise-wide analytics strategy.”

Different at the core

Early on, Qlik set out to solve the biggest problem with modern BI tools – restricted linear exploration. Qlik’s unique associative technology brings all data together without complex data warehouses, and enables users to freely explore in any direction they want, leaving no data behind, and no path uncovered. The ability to combine all data sources quickly and easily, search and explore without limitation and pivot your line of thinking based on what you see is the core differentiator at the heart of Qlik’s leadership in the industry.

This free form exploration is valuable because insights come from truly understanding the data from all angles. To do so across an organisation, it is critical to elevate the level of data literacy of all users. Qlik offers free courses to help business users capitalise on the unprecedented economic opportunity available in the analytics economy.

Over years of continued innovation and changing the face of BI, Qlik maintains its belief that all people need to drive analysis from any data source – on-premises, in the cloud, in a hybrid environment, internal or external – without restriction or limitation.

Qlik continues to expand the market by delivering an extensible, cloud-ready platform that companies of all sizes can consider the centrepiece of their analytics strategy. Qlik Sense is built on a fully integrated, cloud-ready platform powered by the patented Associative Indexing Engine.

Qlik Sense combines enterprise readiness and governance with intuitive visualisation and exploration, advanced analytics and self-service data preparation capabilities. This breadth and depth allows organisations to meet the broadest range of BI use cases from a single platform, leading to consistent, data-driven decision-making. With a flexible, low-cost monthly subscription, streamlined administration and a fully Web-based experience, customers can benefit from Qlik Sense Cloud Business with no capital costs or commitments. And through its open APIs, Qlik offers integration with best-in-class natural language generation and processing, advanced predictive analytics, and an immersive experience including augmented intelligence.

Is your data management an illusion?

With the exponential growth of the Internet of Things (IOT) and the ever-expanding digital era, businesses face a flurry of data. This constant stream of information demands attention. Why? Because businesses already have all the information at hand to make impactful, positive, strategic decisions; if only they knew how to access it.

According to Mentalist and MC at the South Africa Qlik Master Reseller Partner Awards Dinner, Gilan Gork, the key is to unlock the potential that you already possess. In his profession, the power of influence and subliminal messaging drive performance – but every business’ data is telling a story. The question is, are you listening?

The Partner Awards Dinner was held on the 6th of February 2018, in the L’Incontro Ballroom at The Michelangelo Hotel, Sandton. SA Qlik’s valued partners were treated to a three-course meal and entertainment by Gork and the Chili and Lime Afro-Jazz band. The evening marked a celebration of the growth of the partner channel, and an appreciation for the power of collaboration in the software and technology industry.

SA Qlik’s Managing Director, Jane Thomson, began the Awards Presentation Ceremony with the partners who had been nominated by their clients for the “Customer Endorsed Innovation” Awards. These partners were nominated for excellence in customer service, leading to superior storage functionality, seamless enterprise resource planning (ERP) upgrades, cost savings, improved visibility for better management, and providing strategic insights (to name a few).

The winners were; AdvanceNet (nominated by Auction Nation); B2IT (nominated by PG Bison); Decision Inc (nominated by PepsiCo Simba); InteleQt Consulting (nominated by AB InBev) and TRG Enterprise Intelligence (nominated by Vodacom). In its nomination, a representative from Vodacom confirmed that; “Qlik makes a difference in our world every day.”

InteleQt Consulting scooped two further prizes, including the award for “Revenue Growth” and the “Certification Percentage” award. Tracker walked away with the “OEM Deal of the Year” award, while B2IT was celebrated for its continued commitment, winning the “Percentage Growth Year-on-Year” award. The “Innovation” award went to Modernising Management for outstanding performance in this field. Insight Consulting received the “Consistent Performer Over Three Years” award, for performing consistently well. Lastly, the “Partner of the Year: 2017” award went to Decision Inc, for its outstanding commitment throughout the year.

“Well done to all the winners, and to our Partner of the Year, Decision Inc,” concluded Thomson. “Our partners play an integral role in bringing technology into every industry, to expand their knowledge, and give them the proactive ability to influence decision making. Processing large and complex datasets is a challenge – but if the right solution is found, applications allow for pre-emptive and proactive management, and superior customer experience.”

Fuelling Finance Decisions with Data Intelligence

Simon Kirby, Director of SI Industry Solutions: Financial Services at SA Master Qlik Reseller, discussed the use of analytics in finance at the recent Finance Indaba 2017.

As the world delves ever deeper into the Fourth Industrial Revolution, modern enterprises are forced to evolve their operational practices. With this digital transformation comes an onslaught of information, resulting in massive datasets and the responsibility to analyse this data effectively. When organisations are empowered to see the whole story in their data, a powerful shift occurs, where management can make informed decisions based on real facts derived from their operations, ultimately leading to financial success.

At the Finance Indaba 2017, held at the Sandton Convention Centre, thousands of colleagues, suppliers of technologies, specialists, CFOs and thought leaders gathered to further the finance profession. Simon Kirby – Director of SI Industry Solutions: Financial Services at South Africa Master Qlik Reseller – shared his insights into using analytics in the finance function. With a glimpse into the history of analytics and business intelligence, Kirby detailed the data and finance journey, indicating how things are done differently today.

To remain innovative and relevant, especially in the financial and insurance sectors, a good business intelligence solution must handle data effectively, analyse it accurately and present it visually. The results must be distributed in a way that ensures the impact can be seen across the entire organisation. “The finance department has one of the most challenging jobs within any organisation,” confirms Kirby. “They have to collect all of the data for the entire organisation, analyse it, and offer enormous amounts of reporting to the board, senior management, regulators, etc.”

To drive insight into the finance area, three essential elements are required. “Firstly, the analytics tool must offer the ability to support the financial process around regulatory reporting. It must also be effective to track day-to-day transactions, making sense of this huge volume of data flowing through the department. In particular, the sales ledger often needs to be broken down, analysed, aggregated and summarised,” adds Kirby. “Thirdly, analytics are highly effective in ensuring financial control, considering financial losses (whether deliberate, through fraud, or accidental losses).”

Often financial decisions are made by managers with experience. They sometimes rely on gut feel, which can serve them well – but they often lack real data to make sense of, or substantiate, what they have done or decided. “People really need to make decisions based on data. Although statistical results largely depend on the inputs, how the data is presented, what is included and what is left out, you can’t truly make an informed decision and you can’t truly run a business today without really understanding data.”

Kirby believes financial planning is a fascinating part of the finance function and a critical role of any finance department. Successful planning tells the organisation where it is, where it needs to get to in the future, and how it is going to get there. “That process of budgeting, planning and forecasting is vital for any company. Once targets are set, it is essential to measure progress, and when necessary, re-adjust. It’s not possible to do this without data.”

Similarly, in the insurance sector, data and analytics offer dozens (if not hundreds) of ways to benefit the industry. For example, if we look at an insurance company, there are three key areas; underwriting, pricing, and claims. “Underwriters within an insurance company play a very important role in terms of determining the terms and conditions of the policies that they provide, but this requires insight into customer needs. The innovation in this field has created a data driven conversation, rather than merely contacting customers during the annual renewal period,” advises Kirby. “Actuaries work very closely with employees in both underwriting and claims to determine pricing. To do so, precise claims analytics are crucial. From a claims point of view, the need to be able to understand the claims paid, the types of claims received and the information required to eradicate claims fraud cannot be overstated.”

While informing sound decision-making processes, data analytics is an excellent tool to bring inefficiencies to light. From finance to call centres, data analytics drives in-depth insight into how teams are functioning, where performance is lacking, and why. Whether it’s millions of calls coming in daily, or hundreds of financial reconciliations required monthly, data offers the opportunity to discern deep inefficiencies. Kirby asserts that the ability to use data to get things right in the first place and to identify and solve inefficiencies are great examples of using data to improve a business.

Through the effective use of analytics visualisations, dashboards and applications, users can find real insight in their data. “To derive value, users must be able to connect to, store and change data with a powerful but simple to use Extract Transform and Load (ETL) tool. Users shouldn’t need to know how to write complex SQL in order to associate and profile their data,” adds Kirby. “The best analytics platforms at the forefront of data innovation can deal with incomplete data sets without breaking, while at the same time offering the power to ask questions and receive intuitive answers. The ability to see the data in a visual way, and ask for insights through a natural process is the key to driving truly insightful access to datasets.”

Kirby concludes with the core benefits of effective data analytics. In any organisation, the three significant questions are; can we make more money? Can we save money? And, where is that “holy wow” eureka moment that delivers the solution to a problem that has plagued the business’ operations. “The key to any kind of analytics or data analysis is the ability to use data to drive these benefits. Using a tool that offers these advantages in a visual way is incredibly powerful – and sometimes it blows your mind.”

Higher Ed Growth utilises Qlik to improve delivery of enrolment data

The higher education marketing firm reduces latency and provides near real-time delivery of enrolment data to colleges, universities and contact centre partners.

Qlik, a leader in data analytics, today announced that Higher Ed Growth (HEG), a full-service marketing agency specialising in post-secondary education, has chosen Qlik to analyse millions of rows of education inquiry data.

A decade-long leader in advanced enrolment data management and analytics, HEG experienced a fundamental shift with the introduction of its latest proprietary technology, EduMaximizer.

It’s all-in-one SaaS tool streamlines the inquiry generation process and supports all the needs of an education contact centre. Launched in autumn 2014, the company saw its client list and EduMaximizer integrations more than double. Inquiry data spiked more than 10-fold.

“From the moment EduMaximizer went live, the volume of inquiries pumped through our system exploded,” said Eric Flottmann, Chief Operating Officer of HEG. “It placed pressure on every part of our software package, including our entire data-warehousing model and all of the processes that fuelled it.”

Evidence of the increased growth, HEG was named to the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing companies for three consecutive years following EduMaximizer’s launch. The tool captured vast amounts of enrolment data – one table in the database was 119 million rows alone – and was taking hours to provide analysis. HEG required a business intelligence tool that could handle rapid growth, while reducing latency, errors and strain on production databases.

“We always strive for superior business intelligence and that can’t happen with even hours-stale data,” said Flottmann. “Qlik has placed reports in our hands quicker than anything we’ve used before. We can act faster and provide our clients with actionable insights in near real-time to keep them ahead of the competition.”

It was also important for the company to continue to differentiate themselves from the competition. When EduMaximizer captured mass market share, it presented a unique challenge: HEG was now one of many companies represented by its proprietary software.

“We needed to add value – something we were able to do with Qlik,” added Flottmann. “Qlik was the only provider with both a front-end analytics dashboard and data-warehousing solution. In addition to the ease of a single system, Qlik’s multi-tenancy and dashboard customisation offerings meant we could easily meet the needs of even our most advanced data users.”

HEG’s future plans include the development of Qlik apps for internal stakeholders and the extension of client reporting via third-party data sources, a strength of Qlik’s platform.

“Technology innovators such as Higher Ed Growth are constantly having to update and fine-tune tools and processes to stay at the forefront of the data revolution,” said Mike Saliter, VP, Industry Solutions and Global Accounts for Qlik. “We are pleased HEG has chosen Qlik to meet the growing data needs of the higher education sector, helping schools maintain profitability and reach better student outcomes in a world of heightened expectations.”

Qlik, a leader in data analytics, today announced that Qlik Sense, its next-generation application for self-service business intelligence (BI) and visual analytics, has ranked first in customer and product satisfaction, project success, business value and benefits, recommendation, embedded BI, and performance satisfaction among large international BI vendors in the industry’s largest independent global survey of BI users.

Qlik Sense is leader across 16 categories in the large international BI vendor peer group, including: cloud BI, self-service, vendor support, price-to-value, location intelligence, visual analysis, and innovation.

QlikView, Qlik’s proven, market-leading data discovery solution, is top ranked in the considered for purchase category across all peer group categories; and for the fourth straight year – in the large international BI vendor peer group.

The BI Survey 17, conducted by the Business Application Research Center (BARC), is the world’s largest independent survey of BI end-users. This is the ninth year Qlik participated in the survey and the company continued to have a strong showing of customer participation. Of the respondents, Qlik customers value the solutions’ flexible self-service capabilities for a broad range of BI use cases in a single platform leading to consistent, data-driven decision-making.

“Qlik Sense is highly rated in terms of providing business benefits and customer and product satisfaction to customers compared to other large international BI vendors, making the vendor and its product set a leading driver of business value,” said DrCarsten Bange, founder and CEO of BARC. “The results of the large international vendors peer group show that Qlik Sense has convinced customers by yielding business benefits and delivering fast project implementation cycles. Our research shows that Qlik Sense customers give it very good marks in the large international BI vendors peer group in ‘innovation’ categories such as cloud BI, mobile BI, and location intelligence.”

In addition to taking top honours among large international BI vendors, Qlik Sense was also recognised as a leader in 12 categories among the self-service reporting-focused products peer group, including: query performance, performance satisfaction, embedded BI, considered for purchase, and business value. Among the data discovery-focused products peer group, Qlik Sense was ranked first in query performance and hailed a leader in nine categories, including: business value, innovation, customer experience, project success, and visual design standards. QlikView also ranks first in the considered for purchase category in both the self-service reporting-focused products peer group and the visual-discovery focused products peer group.

“We have always been a disruptive force in the BI industry, and will continue to make bold moves,” said David Murphy, CEO, Qlik. “We are excited by the results of the BI Survey 17 because it shows not only the power Qlik continues to deliver, but also because it is from our customers’ first-hand experience. We strive to make analytics that are intuitive, easy to use and deliver value. By outperforming the competition in key areas such as performance and customer satisfaction, we show how the Qlik platform has become a vital part of customers’ business operations.”

The BI Survey 17 was conducted by BARC from March 2017 to February 2017. Altogether, 3 066 respondents worldwide answered a series of questions about their BI software. The survey offers a comparison of 42 leading business intelligence tools across 29 different key performance indicators including business value, customer satisfaction, customer experience and competitiveness.
